At Kai’s German school in Edmonton, they held a little “Einschulungsfest” (school entry party?). The children all receive paper cones filled with gifts.
Another awesome hike with Dietmar, Alice and Lora. Lora and Kai managed to walk most of the 12 km Wutachschlucht (the Wutach Gorge) on their own legs!

When I lived in Konstanz in 1997-8, one of my best memories was of a hike up the Säntis Mountain. On a rainy Saturday morning, we decided to attempt the trip from Freiburg. It is a long drive (for Europe) — 2.5 hours. But it was so worth it. When we arrived, the mountain was in clouds and we thought that the day was a bust. Moments after we ascended, however, the clouds cleared and we had amazing views of Southern Germany and the Bodensee (Lake Constance).
